WHAT IS
LOST WAX CASTING?
Lost wax casting is an ancient jewellery-making technique that dates back thousands of years. Today, people around the world are still using this method to create pendants, rings, earrings, and other accessories from wax.

THE LOST WAX PROCESS
in 5 steps
- Sculpt & carve your design out of jeweller's wax.
- Send your wax model to a casting house.
- The casting house pours the metal for you.
- Receive your raw metal designs.
- Clean, polish, and set any stones.

Casting Houses: Transforming Wax into Metal
HOW IT WORKS
- A wax design is placed into a casting flask.
- Investment is poured into the flask & hardens around the wax.
- The flask is heated to melt and remove the wax, leaving a cavity that’s an exact replica of the model.
- Molten metal (silver, gold, brass, bronze) is poured into the cavity to form the final design.
- You’ll receive raw castings, remove any leftover sprues, then tidy, sand, and polish - all the fun stuff that makes your piece unique!

TWO STAGES OF THE
LOST WAX PROCESS
- Stage One: Sculpt and carve your wax design.
- Stage Two: Refine, polish, and finish your metal piece.
In the Lost Wax course, you’ll be guided through both stages: creating your wax model and then refining it once you receive it back from casting.
You can practice crafting your wax models without worrying about casting them in metal until you’re confident. This means you only need to purchase wax sculpting tools for now, and you can buy your metal refining tools later.
