FAQS
Everything You Need to Know About Lost Wax Jewellery
How much space do I need to start?
A small desk or bench is all you need. Metal Bones wax courses are designed for beginners working in small spaces.
Do I need to use a torch or kiln to make jewellery with wax?
No, just a soldering iron.
Do I have to cast the metal myself at home?
No, you only sculpt the wax and send it to a local casting facility. They pour the metal and send back your raw metal jewellery for you to refine.
How do I find a casting facility?
I provide casting facility recommendations for your country, along with guidance and templates to contact them, in both the free and premium courses.
What tools do I need to start wax carving jewellery?
To get started, you only need a soldering iron, jeweller’s wax, and a mandrel. Your toolkit can grow over time as your skills develop. The free wax carving course includes a clear guide on where to begin.
What happens when I get my jewellery back from the casting facility?
You’ll receive your design in raw metal form. Then you’ll do the final steps at home: sanding, polishing, and setting stones.
Is stone setting included in the Premium Wax Carving Jewellery Course?
Yes. You will learn prong (claw) setting, bezel setting, and how to cast with stones in place.
How much does it cost to cast a ring with a casting facility?
Casting costs depend on the metal you choose and the casting house you use.
As a general guide, silver rings often start from around $30-40 AUD, gold costs more, and brass or bronze are very affordable options. Metal prices change daily, so casting costs will vary.
